Milind Gunaji as SaiA10_0089Between divine and devil, actor Milind Gunaji seems to have done it all. While on one set, he dons the avatar of Sai Baba; on the next, he hops into a very dark role of a period drama.

Currently, he is busy shooting for an Indo-American project “Kamsutra-3D’ in virgin waters of Arabian Sea of Tamil Nadu. “It’s a negative but an amazing character. After a long gap, I have got to play such an intense character. Every day it is grueling work on sea but the feel, the costumes & look by Nita Lulla, the total deliverance of scenes- everything is super interesting.” he says about the role. The film has Marquez of Spiderman-3 fame as Sterographer and director is Rupesh Paul. Dance choreography is by Saroj Khan while costumes are by Nita Lulla.

Milind’s other film is a religious one called ‘Brahmand Nayak Sai Baba’ where he plays the title role. Milind Gunaji, who has earlier played very vital roles in Bollywood hits like Godmother, Devdaas, Fareb, Virasat, Devdas, Phir Hera Pheri, Khatta Meetha etc, is understandably excited about the role.

About the contrasts of the characters Milind says, “Yes both the subjects are completely different. Sai Baba is one the most worshipped saints in India while the other character is of a ruthless and a very powerful king of his time. He is completely engrossed in materialistic pleasures. Playing both the characters simultaneously is a big challenge. However, by god’s grace and the experience gained so far as an actor, surely I will be able to do justice to both. Even my character in Bhai Ka Maal Hai is comically negative, which is again a different genre. It is creatively challenging.”

Apart from a Hollywood film called Singularity, some of his upcoming projects in Hindi films include babuji ek tikat bambai, bhai ka maal hai, brahmand nayak saibaba and salam saab. In Marathi, he has Chintamani with Bharat Jadhav and Promotio in Bengali. There is also a Punjabi film ishk da sona rab and an untitled Kannada film to be directed by Maahesh.

Milind’s latest book and 12th in the series that he has published is ‘Havai Malukhgiri’ (Arial Photography). It has detailed description of various forts, temples and some other places in Maharashtra while unusual photographs are clicked by Uddhav Thakeray. Says he, “l am basically an engineer by education and photographer by passion and an ardent trekker. I used to write travelogues with photos for Marathi and English print media and later I evolved them into books. Till date I have 2 English and 10 Marathi books. ‘Havai Mulukhgiri’ on aerial photography is my 12th book.”
